The 270 foot long bike and pedestrian bridge is just west of Fayetteville Road near the Streets at Southpoint.
The ABC11 I-Team has been exposing a series of delays and cost overruns on the project since last year.
Durham city leaders even told the I-Team last November that the entire project should cost about $11 million, which is well over the original $7.5 million estimate.
Among other issues that plagued the project were problems with the safety fencing and rails.
