Teen killed after car flips into Johnston County creek

SELMA, N.C.

State Troopers say it appears a car driven by 16-year-old Lanie Margaret Bizzell left the road, hit an embankment, and then overturned in a creek.

It happened on Highway 96, less than half a mile away from her home.

Sympathetic neighbor Bonnie Johnson's daughter had a close call while driving toward that same curve last summer.

Johnson's heart is heavy after hearing about the fatal accident at her church. She knows no words can comfort the family now, but she hopes this tragedy will prompt authorities to put a guardrail on that curve. Right now, her thoughts and prayers are with the teen driver's grieving family.

The State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
