Authorities say it happened around 6 a.m. Sunday at the corner of Duke Street and Horton Road.
Police say a truck was pulling out of a gas station when the motorcyclist hit the truck at a high rate of speed.
The motorcyclist, 22-year-old Jeremy Taylor, was taken to Duke Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The truck driver, 52-year-old Rory King, was not injured.
North Duke Street was closed for several hours.
