Unexploded artillery shells were found at a construction site near Fort Bragg on Wednesday

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- Officials at Fort Bragg closed an access gate Wednesday afternoon after construction workers discovered three artillery shells.

A statement on the Army post's website said the Yadkin Road access gate was closed when crews working on the Interstate 295 construction uncovered what is believed to be three 155-mm artillery rounds.

Fort Bragg's Military Police, an explosive ordnance disposal unit, and the post fire department responded and removed the shells.

The road reopened just after 4 p.m.
