Body shops busy after snowfall
Ice, potholes and snow are a triple threat for drivers who have hit the road in the last few weeks.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Drivers are racing to auto body shops to repair their damaged vehicles following days of rough winter weather and icy road conditions.

Several auto body shops in Raleigh told ABC11 they're experiencing backlog in cars to repair. Mini-City Auto Body in north Raleigh is busy repairing cars damaged during the first round of freezing rain and sleet two weeks ago.

"All the shops now are backed up from the previous weather issues that we had," said Alan Garner, Mini-City Auto Body estimator.

Garner said mostly mechanics are looking for curb damage to wheels, tires, and suspension. Wait times at the shop vary, but Garner said non-drivable cars take priority for repairs.

He said the first thing drivers should do is survey their vehicle for damage then contact your insurance company to discuss procedure for repair estimates.

Garner urged drivers who notice damage to not delay getting it fixed, saying a car that's out of alignment could end up costing the owner more in the long run.

"You're hurting it worse, yes," he said. "Because you got tire wear issues and you know as well as I do a set of tires these days are $800 to $1,000."
