Sandhills man upset after car damaged at shopping center
If you take a look at the parking block in the Sandhills shopping center in Aberdeen, the metal rod sticking out is not something shoppers see often.

ABERDEEN, N.C. (WTVD) -- When you park at a shopping center, you don't expect your car to get damaged. However, that's exactly what a Sandhills man says happened to his car.

If you take a look at the parking block in the Sandhills shopping center in Aberdeen, the metal rod sticking out is not something shoppers see often.

"Who's looking for that when you're pulling into a parking space," said Michael Cobb.

Michael says he pulled into the spot when he heard something scrap the bottom of his car. He didn't think anything of it at the time, but when he left the parking space -- he had a problem.

"I backed the car out of the parking spot and heard a rip, so I got out and the bumper was pulled away from the rest of the car," he said.

With more than $1,600 worth of damage, Michael turned to the shopping center management company, Primax, to pay for the damage he says the metal rod had done.

"It wasn't my fault, it was damaged. It was negligence on the part of the shopping center maintenance crew. Ironically they showed up the next morning and repaired the, the spike sticking out of the parking block," he said.

Michael says he first contacted Primax last July and sent letters and made phone calls for months.

"They obviously wanted me to use my own insurance company and I didn't feel like that was necessary," he said.

He turned to me and says he got results.

"It, uh, put a fire under them and they did uh a little more investigation and then turned it to their insurance company," Michael said.

He not only got an immediate response from Primax's insurance company, but more importantly, a check for more than $1,600 to cover the cost of fixing his front bumper.

"I'm very happy, thank you," Michael said.

No one from Primax got back to me with a comment.
