ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The bodies of three women were found in a car submerged in a pond, according to Robeson County Sheriff's Office.

A fisherman made the discovery Tuesday off Maxton Pond Road.

Sheriff Burnis Wilkins asked the community to pray for the women involved, their families and first responders who arrived at the scene.

Officials found Danielle Locklear and her two friends, Tiffany Goins and Anastasia Locklear inside of a car at the bottom of a swamp.

Officials aren't quite sure when the crash happened, but they do know the car -- for some reason ran off of the washed-out road.

"I just want to know why. Why didn't they have it (the road) blocked off?" Goins' mother asked.

Amber Woods said she's complained about the condition of the area to multiple officials, including the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina and the Governor.

"It seems like my cries have fallen on deaf ears," Woods said.

The area belongs to the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. The tribe told ABC11 it had no comment on the case.

Danielle Newk Locklear, 28, leaves behind three daughters. Tiffany Goins, 26, leaves behind a five-year-old son.
