Plans for Cary IKEA gets green light, more acres
CARY, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Plans to bring IKEA to the Triangle, while giving Cary Towne Center a new lease on life, is expanding!
On Monday night, the Cary Planning Department, the Cary Planning and Zoning Board unanimously voted in favor of recommending zoning variances necessary to build an IKEA store.
According to the Cary Planning Department, the recommendation adds five more acres to the current 15-acre IKEA site.

The five acres is land that the mall already owns, so no land is being added to Cary Towne Center.
The recommendations will now go to the full Cary Town Council, and they're expected to vote sometime next month.
If they give the green light for the plans to build on Cary Towne Boulevard, construction could begin in 2019, and the store could open in fall of 2020.
