RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Jimmy John's sandwich shop in Raleigh is among more than 200 the corporate office says was hit by a massive data breach this past summer.

Jimmy John's says between June 16 and September 5, approximately 216 stores were impacted. The store on Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh was compromised between June 19 and August 15. Other North Carolina locations include stores in Charlotte, Greensboro, Kernersville, and Wilmington.

"While the investigation is ongoing, it appears that customers' credit and debit card data was compromised after an intruder stole log-in credentials from a Jimmy John's point-of-sale vendor and used the stolen credentials to remotely access the point-of-sale systems at some corporate and franchised locations," the company revealed in a written release.

The national sandwich chain said it immediately hired a third-party investigator when it found out about the breach in July.

They say the security compromise is now contained, and at no time was information entered online, such as customer addresses, emails and passwords breached -- but some customers are still concerned.

"It is a little scary. You try to use cash when you can -- certainly monitor our bank account to make sure you know there's no suspicious activity," said Wayne Felton, a customer at the Raleigh store.

Jimmy John's is offering identity protection services to affected customers, and urging them to track their credit and debit card accounts, and notify their bank if they notice suspicious activity.
