Funeral held for 3-year-old girl drowned by her father

DURHAM (WTVD) -- A funeral was held Tuesday afternoon for 3-year-old Calista Lassiter, who was drowned at the hands of her father.

Family gathered at 2 p.m. at the Clements Funeral Home on Broad Street in Durham.

Lassister died on September 23, just a few days after being pulled from a pond near Shearwater Drive.

She was found fully submerged near her 5-year-old sister. Their 7-year-old brother had already run away to get help.

Police said their father, Alan Lassiter, called 911 saying he tried to drown his children because they were going to be taken away, citing mental health issues.

Lassiter is being held without bond and is charged with Calista's murder as well as two counts of attempted murder.

The family of Calista is accepting flowers as well as donations to National Alliance on Mental Illness.
