CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (WTVD) -- There's a search underway in Chapel Hill for an armed robbery suspect.

Police tell ABC11 that the suspect they're looking for struck at least twice Monday evening. The first place he hit was La Nuevo Guadalupana, a grocery and variety store at 407 West Rosemany Street, around 8:30 p.m.

The thief left without taking any money there, investigators said.

By 8:58 p.m., Chapel Hill police responded to another armed robbery call at the Sheraton hotel on Europa Drive. This time, the bandit took off with "an undisclosed amount of cash" before leaving the hotel.

He was last seen entering the passenger side of a small, light-colored sedan.

In both cases, the suspect was described as a tall black man, wearing what investigators described as "a small green towel" around his head. Police say he also showed workers a small black handgun at both locations.

There was a surveillance camera at the hotel, but officials have not said if it captured any pictures of the suspect.

If you were at either location Monday night and noticed any suspicious activity, Chapel Hill police want to hear from you. No arrests have been made so far, but they hope the public's tips can help them track down the suspect.
