Child abuse ceremony draws crowd
A ceremony was held in Fayetteville on Friday morning to draw attention to Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A ceremony was held in Fayetteville on Friday morning to draw attention to Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.



Children from local schools joined elected officials and dignitaries at the Charlie Rose Agri-Expo Center to raise awareness of child abuse.





Students from each school were asked to create a 10-foot paper chains to send to the ceremony. The chains were broken in unison by the attendees to represent the community's dedication to preventing abusive behavior.



Chief District Court Judge Robert Stiehl presented a Child Abuse Prevention Proclamation for the month of April, and a keynote address was given by Fayetteville State University Chancellor Dr. James Anderson. The 2015 Champion for Children award winners were recognized during the ceremony.



The Break the Chain Committee includes the following agencies: Army Community Services, Building Blocks Early Education Centers, Child Advocacy Center, Cumberland County Department of Social Services, Cumberland County Guardian ad Litem, Cumberland County Family Court, Cumberland County Schools, Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation, Friends of Children of Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation, Fort Bragg Family Advocacy Program, Fort Bragg Schools, Head Start, and Partnership for Children of Cumberland County.
