RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A newly released report card shows there is improvement in North Carolina's children's health.
Organizers from NC Child and the North Carolina Institute of Medicine revealed the news to advocates for health and for children on NC State's Centennial Campus on Monday.
The report from NC Child shows fewer children in our state are uninsured, and fewer teenagers are getting pregnant, but there are areas North Carolina still needs to improve in.
"We are at an all-time high for children being insured and having adequate health insurance coverage," said Michelle Hughes with NC Child. "And this is inked to better health for kids.
When it comes to moving the state forward, the report card has some positive information.
"We have seen child deaths significantly reduced, infant mortality, decline in teen pregnancy," Hughes said. "All of this is really great news for children and families in North Carolina."
Officials said they believe efforts to improve the state must include help and health care for all children, especially those now facing health care challenges.
"So as our lawmakers consider expansion of Medicaid and expanding health care, we really need to look at children inside families," Hughes said. "And so, when families have health insurance coverage, children are healthier."
NC Child hopes information presented in their report will make a difference as North Carolina leaders consider policies and budget choices.
