Teen charged with murder in Southern Pines shooting that killed 1 child, injured another

SOUTHERN PINES, NC (WTVD) -- Southern Pines police have made multiple arrests in the drive-by shooting that left one child dead and another critically wounded.

Montice Tyree McManus, 16, is charged him with murder. He's also charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Police also arrested Malik Rashad Crawford, 20, on Sunday. He's charged with accessory after the fact of murder.

The shooting happened around 4 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of West Michigan Avenue.

Police say 12-year-old Jalinda Campbell and 3-year-old Kyleigh Graham were on the front porch of a home when someone driving by started shooting.

Campbell died at the hospital. Graham's condition is stable.

McManus was taken to the Guilford County Jail under no bond. His court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 22.

Campbell was a student at Southern Middle School. Grief counselors will be on hand Monday to help her fellow students deal with the tragedy.
