OREGON INLET, N.C. -- Authorities are searching for a 38-year-old man believed to have been spear-fishing in Oregon Inlet.
The U.S. Coast Guard says in a news release that Kristopher Mueller of Avon was reported missing Saturday at 5:30 p.m. after having last been seen fishing an hour prior near the Bonner Bridge.
The National Park Service located his vehicle, while the Oregon Inlet Coast Guard Station found his kayak on shore nearby, with fish, a life jacket, a cellphone and snorkeling gear still aboard.
Multiple boat crews as well as a helicopter and an airplane crew searched for Mueller on Sunday through the night.
