PRINCEVILLE, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Princeville leaders will commemorate the one year anniversary of Hurricane Matthew by unveiling a new flag design and anthem for the town Saturday.

They're inviting the community to attend the Princeville Day of Hope Rally from 12-5 p.m.

Town leaders say they'll rebuild after Hurricane Matthew's rain water left much of the town underwater last October.

They hope Saturday's event will boost the morale of Princeville residents, many of whom are still displaced.

"The purpose is to bring people back and letting them know that the town of Princeville, of course, is coming back," said Marvin Carr, Princeville Public Works Director. "The statement now is bigger, better and bolder and so we're just more focused on just trying to get people back and to build the morale of the people, to let them know, look I know you're going through a hard time, but know that we?re working to bring this town back much better than it's ever been."

NC NAACP President Reverend William Barber will be speaking and local dignitaries will also be at the event.

Everyone will meet outside the town hall at 201 South Main Street and march down to Freedom Hill.

There will be music and games for the children.

It is open to the public.
