Durham murder suspect arrested in Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- A suspect accused of shooting and killing a 50-year-old man on Cornwallis Road was arrested Tuesday morning in Chapel Hill.

Police said Curtis Marcel Barnette, 38, was arrested on Berry Patch Lane by members of the U.S. Marshals Joint Task Force with assistance from Chapel Hill police around 8:50 a.m. Authorities said he was living with a woman at that address.

Barnette has been charged with murder in the death of 50-year-old Reginald Cole. Cole was found in a parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds in the 100 block of East Cornwallis Road on June 30. He died at the scene. The shooting happened around 10:20 p.m.

Police said the incident did not appear random.
