Person killed in north Raleigh crash identified

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- One person died Friday evening in a crash involving an 18-wheeler and another vehicle on Ray Road in Raleigh.

Police have identified the victim as 68-year-old Donald Ray Akin.

It happened near Laurel Mountain Road around 5:30 p.m.

According to police, Akin crossed the intersection in front of a truck. The truck driver tried to stop but the vehicles collided. Both went off the road.

The truck was carrying heavy construction equipment.

Akin was pronounced dead at the scene while the other driver was not hurt.

No charges have been filed and none are expected.
