School transport SUV involved in Raleigh crash
A white car and an SUV that was carrying schoolchildren crashed in Raleigh on Tuesday afternoon.

RALEIGH, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Authorities responded to a serious wreck Tuesday afternoon involving a school transport vehicle and another vehicle at Lynn Road and Valley Drive in Raleigh.

A Wake County Schools spokesman said a Reese Transportation contract vehicle carrying Lynn Road Elementary students was involved in the crash.

The school-contracted vehicle, a 2008 Ford SUV driven by Shirley Leather Bledsoe, 67, of Raleigh, collided with a 2012 Hyundai driven by Billie Wooten House, 85, of Raleigh.

House suffered serious, life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Three students were taken by EMS to WakeMed with minor injuries, and another student was taken to WakeMed by a parent.

The other two students on board were taken home.

Bledsoe was also taken to WakeMed with what were believed to be minor injuries.

Lynn Road was temporarily closed to traffic at Creedmoor Road and at Lead Mine Road.

By Tuesday evening, the road had reopened.

Police said House was driving north on Valley Drive and Bledsoe was headed west on Lynn Road when the two collided in the intersection.

Police have not yet determined what caused the collision and no charges have yet been filed.

Reese's Transit is a special-needs transportation service based in Raleigh.

A manager at Reese's told ABC11 he was at the hospital talking to parents and did not have further information at the time.
