Crash on Durham Freeway causes major backups

DURHAM (WTVD) -- A crash on the Durham Freeway in the East End Connector construction zone caused major backups on Friday afternoon.

All northbound lanes on NC-147 were shut down because of the crash. One lane has since been opened to allow traffic to trickle through the congestion.

Our crew on the scene said four vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction crash. Our crew said at least one person was taken to the hospital.

Traffic was backed up from I-40 all the way to downtown Durham.

Officials are asking motorists to please slow down in the construction zone, so accidents like this one can be avoided in the future.
