Durham police are investigating a violent home invasion that left a person and a dog injured

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham police are investigating a violent home invasion that left a man and a dog injured late Wednesday night.

Just after 11:20 p.m., police were called to the Bridges of Southpoint apartments in the 7300 block of Calibre Park Drive off Hwy 751 about a robbery.

According to authorities, three men were in the parking lot of the complex when they were approached by two men armed with guns and wearing bandanas over their faces.

The victims said the two suspects took their cell phones, cash and wallets, then one of the suspects forced one of the victims into his apartment at gunpoint, while the other suspect stayed in the parking lot with the remaining two men.

Once inside, officials said the suspect took a phone from a woman that was inside the apartment, before shooting the victim's dog one time and pistol whipping the male victim that was taken to the apartment.

The suspects then fled in a silver vehicle, possibly a Nissan.

Police said the dog was taken to a vet for treatment and is expected to survive. The male victim was treated for head injuries.
