Durham neighborhood disgusted after two men expose themselves to women

It's the talk of Durham's Trinity Park neighborhood: Two reports of indecent exposure in broad daylight, by two different men.

"Totally bizarre," said Sarah Musser when we shared information from Durham police with her. She heard about one man from the neighborhood listserv but not the second.

"That's new information to me!" she said.

Two women told police what they saw last month. On September 22 at about 3 p.m., a red-haired man saw a woman sitting on a park bench with her children and asked her about the weather. She told investigators that he sat beside her and then started masturbating.

Hearing that, Naya Powell told us "I think it's sad that in a neighborhood like, that's this beautiful, in a park for families and kids, that somebody would be that bold, that perverted!"

"Because this is a park where families and children play! So I would certainly want law enforcement to do what they can," said Musser.

On September 18, a woman told police that a man with grayish-black hair pulled up in a red pickup truck as she walked near the intersection of Watts Street and Monmouth Avenue. Police say that man was also masturbating.

Police say both men suspected of exposing themselves last month are white. The one in the truck is described as a man in his 50s, last seen wearing a bright neon shirt. The man in the park may be in his 30s, according to the woman who saw him there, about 5'6" and 160 pounds. He left the park on a green motorized scooter.

Disgusted neighbors urge anyone with information about either man to contact Durham police.

"I would hope anybody would, just for the safety of themselves, their community, their neighbors," said Powell. "We have to look out for one another!"
