Pedestrian hit, killed by vehicle in Durham

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham police are investigating a fatal traffic accident that happened just before 4 a.m. Sunday on Holloway Street near Junction Road.

Police say 44-year-old Jose Luis De Lara was walking across Holloway Street when he was struck by a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country driven by 30-year-old Ryan Keith Hanes.

De Lara was taken to the hospital, where he died a short time later. Hanes was not injured.

Speed and alcohol did not appear to have been factors in the accident, according to investigators.

No charges have been filed at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.
