DURHAM (WTVD) -- A Durham teenager is behind bars after police say the man he robbed at gunpoint fought back.
19-year-old Marzelle Burgess is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault by pointing a gun, felony conspiracy, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police say Burgess and another man robbed their victim Tuesday at a self-service car wash on Highway 55 in Durham.
The victim was robbed of $350.
Police say the victim called 911 to report the incident, then hopped in his car to hunt down the gunmen.
He caught up with the pair at a Walgreens parking lot. Police say one of the men fled in a car, while another stayed behind and again threatened the victim with the gun. The victim, fearing for his life, hit the gas and slammed his car into a fire hydrant. Police say Burgess fell down and dropped the gun.
Burgess is being held at the Durham County Detention Center on $750,000 bond.
Police say the victim was not injured during the chase or robbery.
