A suspect fired shots at a Durham officer

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham police are looking for the person who fired shots at an officer in the McDougald Terrace apartment complex.

Police said it happened around 11:35 p.m. Saturday on Sima Avenue. Officers were investigating an incident when the suspect was overheard talking about criminal activity.

When questioned, the suspect ran and fired shots toward one of the officers. That officer returned fire, but no one was injured.

The suspect is not in custody. Officers describe him as a black male in his late 20's or 30's, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, and weighing about 170 pounds. They said he has a dark complexion and possibly wore his hair in small cornrows. He was wearing a black ball cap, a black jacket, dark jeans, and black sneakers.

The Durham Police Department's Professional Standards Division and Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the incident, which is standard procedure in any officer-involved shooting.
