Durham Police charge teen for 2015 fatal shooting

DURHAM (WTVD) -- The Durham Police Department has filed manslaughter charges against a teen in the Nov. 2015 shooting death of Jermaine Bennett, 18.

The shooting happened on Nov. 9 just after 7 p.m. on Wabash Street in the McDougald Terrace neighborhood.

Police said Bennett, of Durham, was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

On Thursday, police said they had charged the suspect, who was 15 years old at the time of the shooting, with manslaughter. The suspect has been charged as a juvenile and was placed in the Durham County Youth Home.

Investigators said the victim and the suspect knew each other, and the shooting was not random.

The suspect's name was not released.
