Gala raises money for NC Educational Scholarship Fund

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- They were once called beauty pageants, now they're referred to as scholarship programs.

In late June, McKenzie Faggart, was named Miss North Carolina 2016. She will move on to the Miss America Pageant this fall. The other big advantage of winning Miss North Carolina, a $15,000 scholarship.

The North Carolina Educational Scholarship Fund provides the money for the Miss North Carolina programs. Next week they will be holding their annual gala fundraiser. It's called "Putting on the Ritz" and will feature Miss America 2016 Betty Cantrell. The event is July 16 at 7pm at the City Club of Raleigh. You can reserve a ticket by calling (919) 834-8829.
