FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Supporters of a beloved teacher in Fayetteville turned out Tuesday evening to rally behind a teacher who hopes to get his job back.
South View Middle School sixth grade teacher Marlow Artis is a victim of the economy that has many school districts struggling.
Artis was told he and about a dozen other teachers' jobs were being cut for next year because of budget restraints and declining enrollment.
School officials said they have been trying to work with Artis for a job at another school.
Artis has filed an appeal with the school board to stay at South View Middle School, where he has worked for five years, but the board rejected it.
He's a former teacher of the year at South View Middle and a runner-up for teacher of the year in the county, and a member of the governor's teacher network.
