Wake County Schools approves $1.4B budget at Cary meeting

CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Wake County School Board unanimously approved a $1.4 billion budget proposal at its meeting Tuesday evening.

The board is seeking a $48 million increase in funding from last year.

The plan includes raises for teachers and staff as well as cash to open three new schools.

Board Chairwoman Christine Kushner said the funding plan would finally match the pace of student growth.

The budget now goes before county commissioners for their review.
