Q Morning Crew nominated for CMA
Local radio hosts from the Q Morning Crew were nominated again for a CMA this year

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The Q Morning Crew from 94.7 WQDR is once again nominated for the CMA for Large Market Broadcast Personality of the year.

The "Q Crew" is made up of Janie Carothers, Mike Wheless, and Marty Young. They are one of only five nominees in the nation.

The trio is no stranger to this honor. They won the award in 2013, and have been nominated six times before.

"That was probably the greatest point of the show. More than anything, I think once we got there, they told us we won, and we were excited. But, once you got there and you got to walk the carpet, our seats were three rows back, and you are seeing people that close, and you realize... man we really did something," Young said.

"It just feels great. You are getting an accolade for what you love to do. You get a reward for that it's even better," Wheless added.

Listeners have been waking up to this team on QDR for nine years, and they credit much of their success to the time spent together behind the microphones.

"The chemistry number one is what helps us. It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but we worked together and found our groove and we hit our rhythm," Carothers explained.

And although they did not win the award this year, they are already looking ahead to the future.

"When you look at it that way, you know you didn't win, but you are one of five in the entire country, that's not a bad deal to be associated with," said Young.

"It's a little disappointing," Wheless said, "but you know we had our day, maybe one day we will win it again"

Last year, 947 QDR took home the CMA award for Large Market Station of the Year, proving they are dominating the country music scene here in the Triangle. You can listen to the Q Morning Crew weekday mornings from 5:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
