Sexist shirt tag causes uproar
There's an uproar online over a soccer jersey that includes the following sexist washing instructions: "give this to your woman, it's her job."

An Indonesian sports clothing company is in a bit of hot water over the washing instructions on their latest label.

A soccer team's newest jersey by Salvo Sports Apparel looks fine at first, but what's underneath is causing an uproar. The shirt's label lists the following washing instructions: "Give this to your woman. It's her job."

The tag is strikingly similar to one from a UK company in 2012. That one had two options: Machine wash warm, or, give it to a woman.

The instructions rapidly drew criticism on social media, with comments such as "this was an awful 'joke'...own your mistakes. Apologize."

The company behind the jersey has since done just that.

They said in several Twitter posts that they never intended to demean women, but said "not all men understand how to take care of their own clothes, women know better/are experts in such matters."

But some say that apology misses the point. The company was more apologetic in subsequent tweets.

Salvo Sports Apparel said the labels would be replaced in time for the team's next soccer match.
