A recent study by WalletHub revealed that North Carolina ranks high on the list of fattest states in the country.

Mississippi, Louisiana, and West Virginia came in first, second, and third, respectively, but North Carolina wasn't too far behind at #15.

In order to identify the states with the biggest weight problems, WalletHub's analysts compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across two key dimensions, including "Obesity & Overweight Prevalence" and "Unhealthy Habits & Consequences."

Obesity and overweight prevalence within a state was determined by the percentages of obese and overweight adults and children. Unhealthy habits and consequences included items such as physical inactivity, access to healthy foods, consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages among adolescents, and percentages of residents with high cholesterol, diabetes, or hypertension.

To obtain the final results, WalletHub calculated the weighted sum of the scores and used the overall result to rank the states.
