Police told ABC11 that the driver of a 2000 Acura, 42-year-old Vernita Smith of Raeford, was killed after her vehicle crossed left of center and collided with a 2012 Dodge Ram being driven by 40-year-old Daniel Smith of Fayetteville.

Vernita Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, while Daniel Smith was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. It does not appear the pair were related.

A passenger in Vernita Smith's vehicle, who was later identified as 19-year-old Devante Smith, and a passenger in Daniel Smith's truck, identified as 36-year-old Casey Smith, were not seriously injured, but both were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Authorities have not released any other details surrounding the incident. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
