RALEIGH (WTVD) -- One person was killed and another injured in an overnight accident in Raleigh.

It happened near the intersection of Wake Forest Road and Hodges Street around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Reginal Antwan Scott, 32, was travelling south on Wake Forest Road with Rondell Shontee Kimble, 40, in the front passenger seat.

Scott tried to make a left turn onto Hodges Street when he was hit on the right side of his car by Kyndel Jemel Eason, 28, according to authorities.

Kimble was declared dead at the scene, officials said. Scott was taken to WakeMed with what police said was life-threatening injuries. Eason was also taken to WakeMed before being taken to the Wake County Detention Center.

Police said Eason's speed played a major role in the collision.

Eason was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, operating a vehicle without a license, and carrying a concealed weapon.
