Teen killed while crossing Duke Street in Durham

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham police are investigating a fatal traffic accident involving a pedestrian.

It happened Friday on North Duke Street at Stadium Drive just after 4 p.m.

Police said 14-year-old Jaydn Wilkins was crossing Duke Street from Stadium Drive when he was struck by a car.

Wilkins was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Witnesses said Wilkins was carrying a skateboard under his arm and running across the street when the accident happened.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Wilkins did not have the right of way.

The accident remains under the investigation.
