Crowdfunding for organized sports
Crowdfunding isn't just for businesses or medical bills, sports teams are now in the game.

Ask any parent with kids in sports and they'll tell you it can get expensive.

Becky Cunningham knows that first hand. Rugby is the sport her three sons play. Her husband also coaches the Clayton Copperheads middle school club team.

So, when the team was invited to Colorado to play in a match in front of England's national rugby world cup team, they knew it was a great opportunity and the fundraising began.

"We spent several hours washing cars all over Clayton and that was fun. The boys had a great time," said Cunningham.

But it didn't bring in as much money as they hoped, so the team turned to a crowdfunding approach. They set up a GoFundMe page and promoted it through social media.

"We heard some other teams that had very good success with it, so we thought we'd give it a shot," said Cunningham.

It was a success. The team raised the $3,000 it needed in just eight days.
