Firefighters battle serious apartment fire in Durham

DURHAM -- Firefighters in Durham battled a serious fire in Durham on Sunday.

It happened in a second-floor unit at the Briarwood Apartments off Morehead Avenue.

Authorities said the fire was under control in less than ten minutes. The fire started in the kitchen, but the exact cause was unclear.

Firefighters said there was heavy damage to the kitchen and living room. The fire displaced seven to eight people, but there were no injuries.

The family is staying with relatives while the fire department investigates the cause of the fire.
