A fire broke out in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A suspicious fire broke out near a middle school in Fayetteville early Saturday morning.

Officials said alarms went off just before 3 a.m. at Douglas Byrd Middle School, in the 1600 block of Ireland Drive. The fire was reported in a two-story building behind the main school facility and serves as a concession stand/press box for athletic events.

Fire officials said there were no fire hydrants in the immediate area, so a water shuttle was established to battle the blaze. The building is considered a total loss.

Fire officials said the fire was "incendiary in nature," and the origin of the fire was determined to be in the second floor/press box area of the building.

Anyone with any information concerning this fire is urged to contact Detective J. Nevitt with the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-703-3499 or Crimestoppers at 910-483-TIPS(8477).
