Residents at Wake County senior living complex fed up with flooding
HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. (WTVD) -- Residents of a Wake County senior living complex say they don't think their concerns are being heard after being flooded out of their homes for the second time in less than 18 months.
The latest flooding took place Sunday afternoon during a heavy downpour. Pictures taken by residents show water cascading down a hill next the apartments where two commercial building have recently been built.
Fans and dehumidifiers clutter the hallways of the lower level of the Woods at Avent Ferry apartments in Holly Springs.
"I opened the door and the place was flooded," said flood victim Marie McKune. "There was two inches of water in the kitchen beyond a doubt. Water was, you know, flooding into the living room into my bedroom."
McKune and others flooded out of their apartments were put up in hotel Sunday night but had to check out Monday morning, then return again that evening and check out again Tuesday morning.
They say it's not clear when the can return to their homes for good. But even when they do move back they feel certain it will happen all over again.
"I have no doubt this is going to happen again," flood victim Clemon Baines told ABC11.
In the spring of 2015 Baines and several neighbors were also flooded out. Baines says assurances the problem would be fixed never panned out.
"They did something temporary and it has not been successful in avoiding it," Baines said.
Residents say they don't believe the property management company is showing them the proper respect.
The onsite property manager says the owners are aware of the problem and dealing with it.
Baines and McKune say they may end up taking their concerns to the Holly Springs town council.
