Raleigh Rescue Mission gets turkeys
Thanksgiving donation to feed the hungry

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The annual Turkeys for the Triangle distribution event is sure to make the Thanksgiving holiday even brighter for families and our service members.

Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston will distribute 2,500 turkeys to local nonprofits Wednesday.

The U.S. National Guard will hand out its 160 turkeys to soldiers in need. The Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC received 75 turkeys and plans to turn them into 1,200 meals.

The following organizations will receive turkeys:

  • USO
  • Backpack Buddies
  • Camp Lejeune and Fort Bragg military bases
  • Fuquay-Varina Emergency Food Pantry
  • Raleigh Rescue Mission

Garner-based Butterball, LLC donated 1,500 turkeys. The organization will also distribute 1,500 turkeys for Christmas.

"We have almost 650,000 people in our service area who are food insecure, so it's tough for them to put a regular meal on their table- let alone a holiday meal," said Jennifer Caslin with the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. "So having a turkey takes a lot of pressure off the family to have some normalcy too."

The Raleigh Rescue Mission got 120 turkeys. They'll use them for their Gobbles to Go program, where they deliver Thanksgiving meals to those in need.
