Food trucks to set up in new downtown Raleigh zones
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- New rules for downtown food trucks means it will be easier to find a quick lunch the next time you're in Raleigh.
The City of Raleigh designated four areas where food trucks can now set up from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day.
Those four areas are the Warehouse District, S. State Street, Polk Street, and Bloodworth Street.
Local property owners will request a city permit for the trucks to set up in parking spots in front of their business.
Food truck owners are excited to have options, and to tap into the business the people who work and live downtown can bring.
We met up with the guys at Oak City Fish and Chips on Wednesday. They said they spent months trying to get permission from a private parking lot owner just to set up downtown.
Under the new rules, they can bring other trucks in and truly be mobile. Right now, the trucks are on a six-month trial run in the new zones.
The city will hand out citations for noise or trash. Three strikes and a food truck is out.
Trucks also cannot set up within 100 feet of a brick and mortar restaurant. But, the food truck operators we spoke with said there's business enough for everyone.
