CHICAGO -- Racing to McDonald's to make the breakfast deadline may soon be a thing of the past.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the fast food giant told its franchisees in an internal memo, to get ready for a possible rollout of the all-day breakfast menu. It could happen as early as October.

The company has said that all day breakfast is the No. 1 request from customers. Franchisees operate more than 90 percent of McDonald's restaurants in the U.S.

McDonald's has been pleased with tests of the all-day breakfast in select markets, including Nashville and San Diego, since March. The company has not decided if it is feasible to make the Egg McMuffin and other breakfast items available throughout the day.

Part of the problem may be tight kitchen space. McDonald's tweeted in February that they do not serve breakfast all day because the grills "just aren't big enough for breakfast and lunch."
