How Hurricane Matthew will affect this weekend's football games

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- ABC11 meteorologist Don "Big Weather" Schwenneker says Hurricane Matthew will likely mean rain and wind for this weekend's college games in the Triangle.

"This may be the weekend to stay home and watch the game on ABC11," said Schwenneker.

Despite the rain, Bigweather said he believes, at this point, they've got a shot at playing.

The NC State Wolfpack plays the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at noon in Raleigh's Carter-Finley Stadium.

The rain will get heavier and the winds will pick up as the game moves along. Here's a look at the expected conditions.

The UNC Tar Heels take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in Chapel Hill's Kenan Memorial Stadium at 3:30 p.m.

The Duke Blue Devils also takes on Army at Durham's Wallace Wade Stadium at 3:30 p.m.

The later game times likely mean conditions will be deteriorating and winds will kicking up. The passing game will be minimal and special teams will be a big factor.

By 6 p.m., conditions will could be worse.

The timing of these showers may change depending on the final path of Matthew. That would mean heavier rain if the storm moves north, or lighter rain if it pulls south. Tailgating for all the games will require rain gear, and lots of tents. Good luck teams!
