The wet weather delayed the Forestville Road bridge from opening

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WTVD) -- This week's wet weather delayed construction on the new Forestville Road bridge, meaning it did not open Thursday as planned.

Wake Forest police are hoping to open the road late Friday afternoon. Crews widened the bridge near Heritage High to three lanes.

The work created a several-mile long detour for residents trying to get to nearby schools or shops. Drivers say they're ready to cut back on their drive time.

"I just go with the flow as far as what's happening, but 10-15 minute delay...next year's gonna be the killer," said Wake Forest resident Bill Sadek.

Sadek is talking about the Rogers Road bridge replacement which will begin in 2016.

Earlier this week, Wake Forest police told ABC11 some impatient drivers actually removed barricades at the Forestville Road project and cut across the bridge.

If you're ever caught doing that, it's a hefty fine.
