Father burned, dog killed in Garner fire

GARNER, NC (WTVD) -- A father was burned and the family dog killed in a house fire in Garner Monday evening.

It happened in the 1200 block of Southerlund Road.

Firefighters said the man was home with two children when they realized the garage was on fire. They were able to get out, but the man suffered burns serious enough that he was taken to the burn center at UNC Chapel Hill.

Firefighters tried to revive the dog with oxygen, but it died.

The home has extensive damage. The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
