HOKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Hoke County fire chief is in fair condition Saturday after getting badly burned in an explosion.

The sheriff's office said Hillcrest Fire Department chief Michael Scott was fighting a woods fire when a nearby storage shed caught fire.

Flammable liquids inside the shed exploded, seriously injuring Scott.

He was sent to the NC Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
