Man marries sweetheart of 40 years inside his hospital room in Cary
CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Love was definitely in the air at a Triangle hospital on Friday during a very special ceremony for a very special couple.
Joe and Jackie Platt have been together for 40 years. They have four boys and seven grandsons together.
Joe is currently being treated at WakeMed in Cary for COPD and emphysema. Joe, a former WakeMed Cary worker himself, decided on Thursday that he wanted to get married to the love of his life.
He told ABC11 that it never really crossed his mind to get married until recently.
"We were there! I mean I guess if I was chasing her, running, and trying to get her. You know, trying to court her. I probably would've been married," Joe explained. "But we were there, always there. I mean I never missed it, the marriage."
Joe has been in the hospital for over a week. When he gets out, they intend to travel and do more family stuff together.
