'Krispy Kreme Challenge' now namesake for children's clinic

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Children's Specialty Clinic has a new namesake thanks to students from North Carolina State University.

The clinic is a satellite of NC Children's Hospital in Chapel Hill on the campus of Rex Hospital in Raleigh. It allows children to get specialty care in the Raleigh area without having to go to Chapel Hill.

A celebration was held Wednesday to recognize a $1 million pledge from Krispy Kreme Challenge.

The challenge is organized by Park Scholars at NC State. Students run 2.5 miles from the campus to a Krispy Kreme shop, eat a dozen donuts and run back.

Funds come from entry fees. The challenge has already raised more than $1 million for the clinic in the last 12 years.

No child is turned away regardless of a family's ability to pay.
