One of the leading ladies of the Golden Age of Hollywood, star Lauren Bacall passed away Tuesday, August 12th at her home in New York, NY. She was 89.

Despite all of this, she never received an Academy Award until 2009 when she was 85.

Over the years, her legacy has remained untarnished and has even earned many accolades in her later career. In 1999, Bacall was ranked within the top 25 greatest screen actresses of AFI's 100 Years list, and finally received an Academy Honorary Award in 2009, "in recognition of her central place in the Golden Age of motion pictures."

In Bacall's first leading role, she was cast opposite screen legend Humphrey Bogart in the film, To Have and Have Not (1944). Life imitated their art when the two stars married a year later. After achieving critical acclaim, Bacall continued to be paired alongside Bogart, appearing in three more movies tougher: The Big Sleep (1946, Dark Passage (1947) and Key Largo (1948). They remained together until his death in 1957.
