SOUTHERN PINES, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Southern Pines police have arrested a Virginia man in a murder last week.

Timothy Caldell Stanback, 25, from Stafford, Virginia, is charged with first-degree murder. Police said that on the morning of September 29, they responded to the M&S Market, located at 912 West Pennsylvania Avenue for a report of a shooting. Officers found Shyheem Ucif Utley, 19, of Pinebluff, in the rear of the parking lot. Utley later succumbed to his injuries.

Stanback appeared before a Richmond County magistrate on Monday and is currently in the Richmond County jail with no bond pending a hearing in a Moore County Court on October 24.

The murder investigation is still ongoing, and investigators say it was not a random act of violence and the two men knew each before the fatal shooting.
